"Mo Xuanyu." There was a light rapping at his door as Yanli carefully balanced a tray with a hot bowl of lotus root and rib soup and a small pot with extra beside it. She gave another knock after a moment, just in case he was asleep or in the middle of something.
"Mo Xuanyu, I brought you some soup. I didn't see you this morning, so I worried you haven't eaten yet."
She was never barred from his room or his life. Jiang Yanli was one of a kind - a beautiful, giving soul that thought of others before herself - and Mo Xuanyu could deny her nothing. So his door opened and he glanced at her shyly through his dark strands of hair.
So like Wei Wuxian, but not. Another lost soul that longed for love and acceptance.
And he had found both in Lotus Pier.
"Lady Yanli, you needn't bring me anything."
He was accustomed to going without food, actually. It was now a bad habit.
Perhaps not but Yanli would never enter anyone's room without permission. Knowing he was awake though, she smile and lifted the tray a bit in offering. It did still surprise her from time to time how alike he was to Wei Wuxian but she let it roll off her shoulders just as quickly each time.
"I know but I wanted to be sure you ate. I didn't bring tea but if you'd like, I could get some to go with it."
She watched him for a moment more, a little surprised, but smiled and gave a nod before joining him at the table. After settling, she set the bowl in front of him.
"You don't have to be shy about wanting company, you know. You can join us whenever you like." Never mind what anyone else might say. Few people will openly argue with Yanli. And those that do usually get glared down by her brothers.
He breathed in the scent of the soup and took a small sip. The warm liquid was savory and sweet and it was...comforting. His sense of comfort intensified when she sat with him.
"I'm not used to it." he set his spoon down, "I don't know what to say."
"I know." He'd been skittish enough around a few of them when he'd first arrived, she remembered. And she'd made it her mission to help him feel more at ease, more at home, in Lotus Pier. Anyone else would probably not have been able to get so long. Weak as her cultivation was, her charm made up for it.
"And that's alright. You don't have to force yourself." She reached over to lightly cover his hand with hers for a moment. "I just want to be sure you know that. You don't have to stay inside all day."
And then a thought: "Would you like to collect some Lotus seeds with me today?"

"I would rather..." he dropped his gaze to the floor, "Could you stay? For a little while?"
Was he asking for too much? She might be busy and her other brothers deserved her company more than him.
